Happy Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, prognosticating six more weeks of winter…which seems like about twice as much as we’ve gotten so far.

My backyard weather station measured roughly two inches of rain over the past week - not too shabby! But it’s about to go dry again…no precip in the forecast until next weekend. Feels like we’re stuck in one of the earliest “fake springs” in recent memory! Some morning fog or low clouds are possible in the early mornings, but should burn off to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. While overnight low temps stay close-ish to normal in the low-40s, afternoon highs will be well above normal - in the low- to mid-60s thru the end of the week. That’s almost t-shirt-and-shorts weather in my book!

There are hints of a pattern change beginning to emerge about a week away, bringing a return of cooler, wetter weather…but to be honest, I’m not holding my breath for any good lowland snow chances. It’s definitely not impossible, but it’s getting less likely as we get closer to “official” spring. However, I am more hopeful that we get several additional systems to help build up the snowpacks in the mountains - they sure do need the business after a lackluster start to the season, and we need the water by the time summer comes!
