Privacy Policy

The privacy of your data is a big deal to us. In this policy, we lay out what data we collect and why, how your data is handled, and your rights with respect to your data. We promise we never sell your data: never have, never will.

This policy applies to the Plateau Weather website at plateauweather.com and the Plateau Weather iOS app (together, "Services"). Plateau Weather is operated by Plateau Digital LLC ("we", "our", or "us").

What we collect and why

Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. Here's what that means in practice:

Browsing without an account

You do not need an account to read forecasts, current conditions, or alerts, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any other identifying information when you do.

Your account

An account exists only so we can send you push notifications. When you sign in with Sign in with Apple, Apple shares with us an identifier for your Apple Account and an email address, which may be a private relay address if you chose to hide yours. Apple may also share your name the first time you sign in; we do not store it. We store only the identifier and email address, to recognize you when you return.

Each time you sign in, we record the IP address and browser or device type of that session so that you stay signed in and so we can spot misuse.

Push notifications

If you turn on push notifications in the iOS app, we store the push token Apple issues for your device, the device type and name the app reports, and the kinds of notification you chose, such as severe weather alerts or forecast updates. We send notifications through the Apple Push Notification service, which receives the token and the notification text. You can change your choices, or turn notifications off in iOS Settings, at any time.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. Deleting it immediately removes your Apple identifier, email address, sign-in sessions, push tokens and device details, and notification choices.

Website interactions

We use Fathom Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as page views, referral sources, and general geographic information. Fathom is a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and is compliant with GDPR, ePrivacy, PECR, CCPA, and COPPA. No personal data is collected or stored through our analytics.

Cookies

We use first-party cookies only for basic site functionality, such as keeping you signed in. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Weather data

Forecasts and alerts come from the National Weather Service, and current conditions from Open-Meteo. Our server fetches this data on your behalf: your browser does not connect to either service, and no information about you is shared with them.

Server logs

Like most websites, our servers record standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you asked for, so that we can keep the Services secure and diagnose problems.

Voluntary correspondence

When you email us with a question or to ask for help, we keep that correspondence, including your email address, so that we have a history of past correspondence to reference if you reach out in the future.

When we access or disclose your information

We do not disclose your information to third parties except when required by law. If U.S. law enforcement authorities have the necessary warrant, criminal subpoena, or court order requiring us to disclose data, we must comply. We will notify affected users before we disclose data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.

Your rights with respect to your information

You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information we hold about you, including any correspondence with us. Please contact us at hello@plateauweather.com with any such requests.

How we secure your data

All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to your browser.

Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it to provide the Services. Voluntary correspondence is retained as long as needed to provide support and then deleted.

Location of site and data

Our Services are operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to and stored in the United States.

Changes and questions

We may update this policy as needed to comply with relevant regulations and reflect any new practices. Whenever we make a significant change to this policy, we will refresh the date at the top of this page.
