Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 23, 2026

The privacy of your data is a big deal to us. In this policy, we lay out what data we collect and why, how your data is handled, and your rights with respect to your data. We promise we never sell your data: never have, never will.

This policy applies to the Plateau Weather website at plateauweather.com and the Plateau Weather mobile app (together, "Services").

What we collect and why

Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. Here's what that means in practice:

Identity and access

Plateau Weather does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the Services. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other identifying information through normal use of the site or app.

Website interactions

We use Fathom Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as page views, referral sources, and general geographic information. Fathom is a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and is compliant with GDPR, ePrivacy, PECR, CCPA, and COPPA. No personal data is collected or stored through our analytics.

Cookies

We use first-party cookies only for basic site functionality, such as remembering your preferences. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. Our analytics provider (Fathom) does not use cookies at all.

Voluntary correspondence

When you email us with a question or to ask for help, we keep that correspondence, including your email address, so that we have a history of past correspondence to reference if you reach out in the future.

Third-party services

Plateau Weather displays data from the National Weather Service (NWS) and the University of Washington Department of Atmospheric Sciences. NWS data is in the public domain, operated by the U.S. federal government. When you use our Services, your browser or device connects to these third-party services to load weather data, maps, and imagery. These services may log standard web request information (such as your IP address) according to their own privacy policies.

Current weather conditions are provided by Open-Meteo, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Open-Meteo data is fetched by our server on your behalf — your browser does not connect to Open-Meteo directly, and no user information is shared with them.

We use Fathom Analytics for privacy-respecting website analytics. Fathom does not collect personal data or use cookies.

When we access or disclose your information

We do not disclose your information to third parties except when required by law. Since we collect virtually no personal data, there is very little to disclose. If U.S. law enforcement authorities have the necessary warrant, criminal subpoena, or court order requiring us to disclose data, we must comply. We will notify affected users before we disclose data unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.

Your rights with respect to your information

Because we collect minimal data and no personal information through normal use of the Services, there is very little data to exercise rights over. However, if you have corresponded with us via email, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of that correspondence. Please contact us at hello@plateauweather.com with any such requests.

How we secure your data

All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to your browser.

Data retention

We do not store personal data through normal use of the Services. Anonymous analytics data is retained by Fathom Analytics according to their data retention policies. Any voluntary correspondence (emails) is retained as long as needed to provide support and then deleted.

Location of site and data

Our Services are operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you voluntarily provide to us (such as via email) will be transferred to and stored in the United States.

Changes and questions

We may update this policy as needed to comply with relevant regulations and reflect any new practices. Whenever we make a significant change to this policy, we will refresh the date at the top of this page.

Have any questions, comments, or concerns about this privacy policy, your data, or your rights with respect to your information? Please get in touch by emailing us at hello@plateauweather.com and we'll be happy to try to answer them.
