Thursday night update: So remember how last night I said the Air Quality Alert and Heat Advisory were expiring today? Yeah, about that...they were both extended π
The Air Quality Alert has been extended until 8am tomorrow (Friday). While the winds have cleared some of the smoke out last night and today, they haven't been strong enough to clear it out as much as previously thought. However, this evening's satellite picture does look better across western Washington than yesterday's! Central and eastern Washington aren't so lucky...and in fact, there's more increased fire danger tomorrow and Saturday again. π
We should get more improvement overnight and through tomorrow - looking at the current air quality readings as of 9:30pm, we're hovering right around the line between the red "Unhealthy" and orange "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" categories. And Seattle is already starting to see some improvement over the past hour or two, dropping them back into the yellow "Moderate" / "Acceptable" range. Hopefully the marine layer can make it further east tonight to clear the air even more!
As for the Heat Advisory - that's been extended thru 10pm tomorrow (Friday). Very similar high temps today as yesterday, with mostly upper-80s and a couple 90ΒΊ readings around the Plateau. While we're past the peak, tomorrow will still be a pretty warm day, in the mid- to upper-80s. I'm not thinking they'll extend it any longer, as Saturday is only expected to get to the low- to mid-80s. Still warm, but not hot...and shouldn't be smoky either!
